JAZZ, JOY, JUMPING JUBILATION AT SPA CITY

Jazz enthusiasts mark your calendars for a late summer vacation fling. Start tapping those feet and nodding those heads, Then buckle them seat belts and get on the road to one of the precious jewels of the south, Hot Springs, Arkansas. Smack dab in the middle of this fantastic city will be the 19th annual Hot Springs JazzFest, running from September 14th thru the 19th of 2010. Get those excitement glands ready to see and hear truly original American music, JAZZ. This embraceable vacation city will be smoking with big bands, ensembles, groups, trios, outstanding soloists and of course, accompanied by great vocalists..
All conducted in a special place-the Spa City, Hot Springs, Arkansas. Nestled in the gently rolling Ouachita Mountains and surrounded by beautiful lakes and forests, Hot Springs' natural beauty, historical, cultural, recreational and family attractions make it a favorite vacation destination. Of course the HOT SPRINGS JAZZFEST is the centerpiece but in your spare time enjoy the wonderful restaurants, other music and magic shows, the abundant camping, fishing, boating, hiking, and golfing experiences as well. AND MORE! Hot Springs wrote the American book on spa treatments at its architecturally beautiful spas, located downtown in the middle of the jazz excitement. The city also boasts a thriving arts community with a host of fine art galleries and antique shops. The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Science and the Arts(ASMSA) students created the merchandising and advertising designs for this 19th annual event. Also new this year will be the music clinics for ASMSA students with renowned musicians from around the world. The HOT SPRINGS JAZZFEST kicks off on Tuesday, September 14th at the famous Arlington Resort in downtown Hot Springs with a musical fundraiser at 7:00 pm. .It continues throughout the week with featured entertainers such as the Navy Big Band , keyboardist Phyllis Emert, guitarist Ed Smith, bassist Bill Huntington and percussionist Jay Payette. Other performers include the Tymes Dixieland Band, Arkansas Jazz Orchestra, ATM with Mel Martin(sax), Scott Whitfield (trombone), and Paul Shaw (drums). Rufus Reid with be with Inside Out and in the middle of the mix will the queen of southern jazz and blues, Shirley Chauvin. The festival will include musical clinics with numerous professional musicians, most notably Paul Shaw, Mel Martin, Steve Masakowski, and Scott Whitfield. The festival will conclude on Sunday, September 19th with Jazz Mass at St. Lukes at 10:45 am. And of course there is much, much more, more, more. You'll have to be here.
