About Pee Wee Ellis...

Saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis has been playing with the San Francisco Medicine Ball Band since the early 80's, when he was also Van Morrison's bandleader/arranger. As James Brown's bandleader, Pee Wee wrote the music for 26 of his hits including "Cold Sweat", widely considered the first ever Funk tune, and "Say It Loud, I'm Black & I'm Proud", "Licking Stick-Licking Stick," and "Funky Drummer, "Mother Popcorn".

He is the leader of an African and American JB Tribute band with Fred Wesley and, when he's not with Prince, Maceo Parker; called "Still Black; Still Proud".
