JAMIE BAUM is one of the finest jazz flutists in the world and a composer of groundbreaking original works. Her critically acclaimed CDs include 2008's "Solace" (Sunnyside Records), which was listed among the best jazz releases of the year in Downbeat, Jazz Times and the Village Voice. In its four-star review of the album, French magazine Jazzman called Solace "a remarkable disc." Jamie's brilliance on flute is regularly recognized in the Downbeat Critics' Poll, the Jazz Journalists Association Awards, and many others.
THE JAMIE BAUM SEPTET could very well be the only prominent group in jazz today with the inventive instrumentation of flute/alto flute, electric guitar (Brad Shepik), bass clarinet/alto sax (Douglas Yates), trumpet (Taylor Haskins), piano/electric piano (George Colligan), bass (Johannes Weidenmueller), and drums (Jeff Hirshfield.) All About Jazz said of a recent live performance, "The experience was nothing short of extraordinary... it was enough to leave me breathless and wanting more."
Jamie studied with two of the greatest flutists in jazz history, Hubert Laws and Dave Liebman, and with pianist Jaki Byard. She currently co-leads a repertory ensemble, Yard Byard, performing Byard's music. Jamie's recordings as a bandleader have featured jazz trumpet stars Randy Brecker and Dave Douglas, and she has performed with the bands of the great George Russell and many other popular artists.
Jamie has served as a U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassador for multiple tours, and has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Meet the Composer. Among her career highlights are performances at the JVC Jazz Festival New York, Bermuda Jazz Festival, Barcelona's Terrassa Jazz Festival and Jazz India.
THE JAMIE BAUM SEPTET can be booked for live performances, recordings and other engagements through Scott Foster Management, 61 W. 62nd St. 7B, New York, NY 10023.
