JUILLIARD JAZZ CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY WITH RETURNING ALUMNI PERFORMING ORIGINAL COMPOSITIONS

THURSDAY, MARCH 31 AT 8 PM IN JUILLIARD'S PETER JAY SHARP THEATER


GUESTS ARTISTS JOINING THE EVENING INCLUDE MONTY ALEXANDER, CARL ALLEN, BENNY GOLSON, BENNY GREEN, JIMMY HEATH, BAKITHI KUMALO AND KENNY WASHINGTON


Juilliard Jazz celebrates its 10th anniversary season with a Swingin' Alumni Reunion Concert on Thursday, March 31 at 8 PM in Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Christian McBride, bassist and artist-in-residence at Juilliard Jazz, and saxophonist David Sanborn co-host the concert which features returning alumni performing their own compositions plus special guest artists. The alumni will perform their works with Juilliard Jazz Ensembles, and the guest artists joining the evening will perform with the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra.

Confirmed alumni for the concert are: Sharel Cassity; Christopher Madsen (tenor saxophone); Carl Maraghi and Andrew Gutauskas (baritone saxophone); Jumaane Smith, Etienne Charles, Dominick Farinacci, and Justin Kisor (trumpets); Ryan Keberle, James Burton, Jen Krupa, and Michael Dease (trombones); Lage Lund (guitar); Mayuko Katakura (piano); Yasushi Nakamura and Ben Williams (basses); Carmen Intorre and Jerome Jennings (drums); and Brandon Lee, assistant conductor of the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra.

Joining Juilliard Jazz for this celebration will be guest artists, pianist Monty Alexander; drummer Carl Allen, saxophonist Benny Golson; pianist and visiting artist at Juilliard Jazz, Benny Green; saxophonist Jimmy Heath; bassist Bakithi Kumalo (a member of Paul Simon's group); drummer and jazz faculty member Kenny Washington; and drummer Carl Allen, Artistic Director of Juilliard Jazz Studies.
