The U.S. Navy Band Commodores Jazz Ensemble will be the featured band at the UMBC Jazz Festival on March 11, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the UMBC Recital Hall on the campus of UMBC in Catonsville, Md. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Commodores have been in existence since 1969. They are without doubt, one of the finest big bands performing today. Just back from tour to the Tidewater region of Virginia, they are ready to perform another great show for you. Recent events include performing with Branford Marsalis at the 34th Annual International Saxophone Symposium held in Fairfax, Va.
The band features a dynamic jazz vocalist, Chief Musician Yolanda Pelzer, amazing soloists in all sections of the band and a swinging rhythm section. The band's repertoire consists of cutting edge big band jazz as well as time tested favorites.
This band is "A National Treasure" and they live up to that high standard with each performance.
