(Published: May 05, 2007)

Grammy-winning bassist Christian McBride will perform with his trio May 5 at the El Campanil Theatre.

A jazz trio named A Christian McBride Situation, featuring Grammy-winning bassist Christian McBride, pianist Geoffrey Keezer and drummer Justin Brown, will headline the Antioch Collegiate Jazz Festival (ACJF) May 5 at the El Campanil Theatre.

McBride, a chameleonic virtuoso of the acoustic and electric bass, has per-formed with hundreds of fine artists, including McCoy Tyner, Sting, Kathleen Battle and Diana Krall. For more information on McBride, visit christianmcbride.com.

His trio will be the grand finale of the jazz festival, which begins at 1 p.m. with music from Fresno State and San Jose State quartets, a quintet from the University of the Pacific’s Dave Brubeck Jazz Institute, and a sextet from Cal State East Bay.

Tickets are $35 for Gold Circle, $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students. The El Campanil Theatre is located at 602 W. Second St. in downtown Antioch.

The festival benefits the Antioch Music Foundation, which aids Antioch school music programs. For more information, call 756-7628 or e-mail Walter Ruehlig at waltrue@comcast.net or visit www.antiochmusic.org.
