92Y Announces Line-Up for Jazz in July Festival
(Published: April 14, 2011)

92nd Street Y announces the lineup for the 2011 92Y Jazz in July festival, which runs from Tuesday, July 19 to Thursday, July 28. This is pianist and Blue Note recording artist Bill Charlap's seventh year as 92Y Jazz in July's artistic director.

As always, Charlap brings together some of the world's finest jazz players for once-in-a-lifetime performances. 92Y Jazz in July opens with acclaimed vocalist Marilyn Maye joining 92Y favorite Bucky Pizzarelli for a celebration of swing; a tribute to Benny Carter closes the first week of the festival with a line-up featuring NEA Jazz Master Phil Woods. In between is a rare opportunity to hear four major jazz pianists - including NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron in his 92Y debut - together on one stage, playing and talking about music. A night celebrating Blue Note Records gives Bill Charlap a chance to celebrate the label's history with an ensemble that includes Randy Brecker and Renee Rosnes. Chris Brubeck comes on board to celebrate the music of his legendary father, Dave Brubeck (Dave himself sits this one out) and 92Y Jazz in July closes with a program devoted to Irving Berlin's songs featuring vocals from festival favorite Sandy Stewart and Sachal Vasandani, making his 92Y debut.
