The United States Navy Band Commodores jazz ensemble will perform at Shenandoah University on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. As the premier jazz ensemble of America's Navy, the Commodores have a rich 40-year heritage of playing America's truly original music: jazz.
Today's Commodores perform a diverse mix of traditional big band favorites and cutting edge original music. In addition to some of the best jazz instrumentalists in the country, the Commodores feature the popular vocal talents of Chief Musician Yolanda Pelzer.
Already this year, the Commodores have performed with Branford Marsalis at the Navy Band's own International Saxophone Symposium and Ryan Kisor at the National Trumpet Competition; and were the featured jazz band at the American Bandmasters Association convention and the UMBC Jazz Festival.
The United States Navy Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Navy. Comprised of six primary performing groups as well as a host of smaller ensembles, "The World's Finest" is capable of playing any style of music in any setting.
