The Music of the Tenor Masters: Joe Lovano & Benny Golson
March 23-24 - The Allen Room
Who/What:
Tenor saxophonists have often been among the most important jazz musicians of their times - from Lester Young and John Coltrane, to Dexter Gordon and Joe Henderson, to name a few. This rare event at Jazz at Lincoln Center teams tenor titans whose influence and power are likewise far-reaching. Benny Golson has planted his legacy as a masterful composer of jazz standards and a formidable tenor player, while music director Joe Lovano has had a prolific career showcasing his rough yet sweet sound and edgy compositions. The band includes Kenny Barron (piano), Bennie Maupin (bass clarinet, tenor and soprano saxophones), George Mraz (bass), and Lewis Nash (drums).
