Jazz Arts Group PBJ & Jazz season finale with Michael Cox - March 10
(Published: February 28, 2012)

Columbus, OH - The Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) and Bob Evans Farms present the PBJ & Jazz season finale featuring Columbus Jazz Orchestra saxophonist Michael Cox at the Lincoln Theatre ballroom on March 10, 2012. Due to popular demand, this year's season has been expanded to include two performance times per concert, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Michael Cox joined the Columbus Jazz Orchestra in 1991 after moving to Columbus to teach full time as Professor of Saxophone in the renowned Conservatory of Music at Capital University, where he currently is in his 20th year. In addition to the CJO, Michael has maintained a continuous schedule as a freelance saxophone and woodwind soloist and performer. In Ohio you may have seen him in the Columbus and Lancaster Symphonies, the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra or such groups as Brasileira, the Science Gravy Orchestra, Magically Delicious, the High Street Stompers, Too Far North, the Powerhouse Trio, or more recently System Theory, Still Motion and the Black Swamp Saxophone Quartet.

PBJ & Jazz concerts are 1-hour long interactive concerts designed to introduce jazz and American music to young children and their families. Featuring some of Columbus' finest musicians and ensembles, PBJ & Jazz concerts are hosted by former Columbus Music Hall owner and retired music educator Rebecca Ogden and are a great introduction to live music for the youngest audience member.

"It has been so much fun over the years to work with great musicians playing real live jazz for kids and their families," states Ogden. "Every concert is a treat. I am delighted that PBJ & Jazz has a life after the Columbus Music Hall in its new home at the Lincoln!"

PBJ & Jazz concerts are $5 per person at the door with a family maximum of $20. Children receive a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, juice and a cookie (provided by Girl Scouts of Ohio's Heartland). The 2011-12 concerts will be held in the ballroom in the Lincoln Theatre complex, 769 E. Long Street, Columbus, OH 43203. All concerts begin promptly at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Call 614-294-5200 or visit www.jazzartsgroup.org for more information.

The PBJ & Jazz series will continue this summer at the Topiary Park including Brasiliera (June 9), the Aaron Scott Trio with Bryan Olsheski (July 14), Matt and Natalie Adams (August 11), and the Vernon Hairston Trio with Mary McClendon (September 8).

The PBJ & Jazz series is presented by Bob Evans Farms with ongoing support from the Ohio Arts Council, the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and The Columbus Foundation. Exclusive media support is provided by WCBE 90.5 FM.
