Newport Festivals Foundation Offers $15 Tickets to Students at Select Schools
Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc.™ and Newport Jazz Festival®
Offer $15 Student Discount Tickets to Select New England Schools
NEWPORT, RI, June 26 - Following its mission to educate and inform young people about jazz, the Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc.™ is offering $15 Student Discount Tickets to encourage music students from Boston University, Rhode Island College, University of Rhode Island, Berklee College of Music, and New England Conservatory to attend the Newport Jazz Festival® on Saturday and Sunday, August 4 - 5.
"What better way to encourage young people to listen to live jazz than helping them to attend the festival at a price they can afford," said George Wein, Newport Jazz Festival Producer and Chairman of the Newport Festivals Foundation. "Almost every student can find $15 in his or her budget, and we have kept the price low enough to allow them to attend both days and encourage their friends to join them for a weekend of great music and festival fun. We hope that many students across New England will take advantage of this special offer."
To take advantage of this opportunity, music students at the participating schools - Boston University, Rhode Island College, University of Rhode Island, Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory - should contact their Music Department heads for instructions on purchasing these specially- priced tickets. A valid student ID must be presented at the festival gates in order to use $15 tickets. If a university ID is not presented at entry, students will be directed to the Box Office to upgrade to the $84 General Admission ticket. The offer does not apply to reserved seats or the August 3 concert.
The Newport Jazz Festival takes place August 3 - 5, at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino and Fort Adams State Park featuring Pat Metheny, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Dianne Reeves, Jack DeJohnette, Dr. John and the Lower 911 featuring Jon Cleary, Maria Schneider Orchestra, Jason Moran and the Bandwagon, Ambrose Akinmusire and many others. Tickets and the full festival schedule are available at www.newportjazzfest.net
The Newport Jazz Festival has been a staple of the American music scene since its founding in 1954 by legendary impresario George Wein. Over the years, it has featured history's most prominent and influential jazz musicians, from Billie Holiday to Duke Ellington to Ray Charles, as well as James Brown, B.B. King, and The Allman Brothers Band. Now in its seventh decade, the Newport Jazz Festival not only preserves the history of jazz, but showcases its future.
The Newport Festivals Foundation was founded by George Wein in 2010 to continue the legacies of the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals. The festivals present performers who respect and honor music traditions, and at the same time reflect the changes in today's musical trends. The Foundation also presents programs to educate young people about jazz and folk music. For more information, please log on to www.newportfestivalsfound...
