Pianist Elmer Gibson Releases Generation Dance on LifeForcejazz Records!!
(Published: August 24, 2012)

On August 21st, 2012 Philadelphia native now Raleigh N.C. based pianist Elmer Gibson releases his first CD of all original music Generation Dance on LifeForcejazz Records!

Since the 1960's Philadelphia native Elmer Gibson has been writing and arranging, and performing with and playing informally with such noted musicians as Kenny Dorham, Gene Ammons, Sonny Stitt, Grover Washington Jr. Stanley Clark, Al Grey, Sonny Fortune and Frank Foster to name a few!

Elmer Gibson later won the Gold Award as music director, arranger and accompanist of the Nnenna Freelon Duo at the National Musicfest USA competitions held in Philadelphia.

With all the music written and arranged by Elmer Gibson and co-produced with Norman Connors the genesis of Generation Dance was sparked by Elmer attending a family reunion and meeting family members he never knew which led to the search and discovery of his family history that goes back many years before the revolutionary war.

Through the music he shares his Generation Dance with us! As Elmer says "there are great insights to be had in the study of Generations".

In telling his story he's enlisted a stellar group of musicians with vocalist Maiesha Rashaad who so soulfully guides us through the title track along with trumpeter Eddie Henderson whom Elmer was band mates with in the Norman Conner's band. The always special Gary Bartz is on alto and soprano saxophones.

Other noted sidemen for the 8 tune set are Paul Carr on tenor who's Houston Texas tenor shines throughout but particularly fierce on Kid Stuff. The stellar lineup also features trombonist Clifford Adams who delivers a very rich and tender solo on Sol' Touch, Charles Fambrough on bass and Alvin Terry on drums and Mamadi Nyasuma percussion.

As Elmer Gibson says "the making of Generation Dance was a particularly spiritual journey for me" and as the early response to the music indicates it was a journey well worth taking!!
