Usdan Center, Expanding Jazz Program, Holds 10/28 Open House for 2013 Season
(Published: October 19, 2012)

Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the nationally renowned Long Island summer arts day camp, announces new programs -- come for three weeks, four weeks or seven weeks -- and its first, free Open House for the 2013, 46th annual season. It will be on Sunday October 28 from 11 AM to 2 PM. Call (631) 643-7900, visit www.usdan.com, or write to info@usdan.com.

Usdan's Jazz Department, created by Dr. Billy Taylor, has now expanded its number of Jazz Ensembles to three -- Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, giving more opportunity and personalized attention. The world-famous jazz artists who have taught and performed at Usdan include Jimmy Heath, Arturo O'Farrill, Jon Faddis, Randy Brecker, Jane Monheit, Marian McPartland and Dr. Taylor.

Students ages 6-18 from New York City and throughout the Tri-State area attend Usdan Center, transported by air-conditioned buses. No audition is needed for most programs, just an interest. About one third of the students are on scholarship.

Open Houses give interested familes a chance to tour the Center's magnificent 200-acre campus and obtain information on the more than 40 programs in music, dance, theater, visual arts, creative writing, nature and ecology and chess.

Families who cannot attend the Open House may make appointments for other days.

Usdan has introduced the arts to more than 60,000 children.
