Usdan, W/Expanded Jazz Dept., Extends Tuition Freeze to 1/31; 1/27 Open House.
(Published: December 10, 2012)
Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the nationally renowned summer arts day camp whose Jazz Program (created by Dr. Billy Taylor in 1986) is newly expanded, announces an extension of its tuition freeze to January 31, 2013.
The tuition freeze, an opportunity for families to pay
last year's rates, a $100 tuition savings, has been extended due to the continuing effects of
Hurricane Sandy on New York City and Long Island communities. The tuition will now be
in effect through January 31, 2013.
Usdan's new programs for 2013 include a three-week session July 22-August 9. This will be
in addition to the four-week program beginning June 24 (the regular beginning of the season) and the full seven-week program. The expansion of the Usdan's
Jazz Studies Program will create three separate jazz ensembles: Beginner, Intermediate and
Advanced, giving students more personalized attention at their specific levels as well as
increased opportunity for performance at the Center's 1,000-seat McKinley Amphitheater.
Visiting jazz faculty in 2013 will include Grammy-nominated jazz singer Jane Monheit, an
alumna of Usdan's summer program.
Usdan Center's next, free Open House for the 2013 season will take place on Sunday January 27, 2013 from 11 AM to 2 PM at Usdan's magnificent 200-acre woodland campus. The Center is located at 185 Colonial Springs Drive, Wheatley Heights (Huntington) Long Island. Usdan features more than 40 programs in music, dance, theater, visual arts, creative writing, nature and ecology and chess. In addition, the recently added and very popular
"Book Illustration" and "Fashion Design" programs will continue. For information, contact the Center at (631) 643-7900, or (212) 772-6060, visit www.usdan.com, or write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
At Sunday Open Houses, visitors are greeted at the Administration Building by faculty and
staff who introduce visitors to course options at Usdan, and also review the application
process. These greetings are followed by self-guided tours. Families who cannot make the
Open House may make arrangements for other days. For appointments for weekend or
weekday tours, call Gail London at (631) 643-7900.
Many of Usdan's programs and special events appear on the Center's website, www.usdan.com. The website is also Usdan's portal to its Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr feeds, as well as to the Center's extensive library of student performances on its YouTube channel - youtube.com/usdancenter.
Future Open Houses will take place on Sundays: March 17, 2013, April 21, 2013 and May
19, 2013; and on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. All Open Houses will be from 11 AM to 2 PM.
