Saxophonist Tim Warfield releases the coolest of Christmas jazz. (Published: December 18, 2012)
It's funky, it's groovy, it's adventurous, but most of all... it's fun! Saxophonist Tim Warfield's new CD entitled, "Tim Warfield's Jazzy Christmas," on his Undaunted Music label, comes into the Christmas Holiday game with an A-Team musical cast, including vibraphonist Stefon Harris, trumpeter Terell Stafford, pianist Cyrus Chestnut, bassist Rodney Whitaker, drummer Clarence Penn, and a few other musical guests, that combined, are a force of boundless creativity of which to be reckoned. With a collective interplay of reckless abandonment, Warfield and company, bring a fresh and sometimes mischievous perspective, to many familiar holiday favorites, like "Joy To the World," "The Little Drummer Boy," and "Let it Snow," without ever forsaking their synonymously festive hallmark. The recording consists of 10 songs, including a few numbers that feature, vocalist Joanna Pascale and baritone voice Jamie Davis, as well as percussionist Daniel Sadownick and pianist Neil Podgurski, to round out the sound. Even the CD's bonus track, "The Dreidel Song," brandishes a humorously inventive perspective on the traditional Hanukkah melody. This is a stellar recording by Mr. Warfield, with holiday songs performed like you've never heard them before, and inarguably, the coolest conceptualized Christmas jazz recording of the decade. Absolutely worth adding to your collection.
"Tim Warfiled's Jazzy Christmas," is now available in stores, and at online retailers.
