Merzbow / Mats Gustafsson / Balazs Pandi in Philadelphia - March 26, 2013

Tuesday, March 26, 2013 - 8:00pm
Where: International House Philadelphia
3701 Chestnut Street
Philadelphia, PA
Price: $15 General Admission

Please join Ars Nova Workshop for the first Philadelphia collaboration between the Japanese noise artist Merzbow, the Swedish saxophonist Mats Gustafsson and the Hungarian drummer Balázs Pándi.

"Merzbow's position is as the ultimate example, the reference point, for Japanese noise music, and for the consumption of and writing on noise," writes Paul Hegarty in Noise/Music: A History. Tokyo's Masami Akita founded Merzbow, named after Dadaist and Surrealist Kurt Schwitter's work Merzbau, in 1979. Since then, he has released well over 300 CDs, cassettes, and LPs, including the massive 50 CD set, Merzbox. His work is abrasive and violent and brutal, often gorgeous and always profound.
