(Published: February 25, 2013)

Jazz House Kids, a nationally recognized community-based arts organization that has brought innovative jazz education, music instruction and performance to more than 20,000 students across the state, is holding its signature fundraising event, Body and Soul, on Friday, March 8, 2013.
Hosted by the DeSalvo family and the Jazz House Kids Board of Directors with event partners Amanti Vino and CulinAriane, Body and Soul is the first major public celebration to be held in the new Jazz House studios and offices designed by John M. Reimnitz Architects, PC at 347 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, New Jersey.
"Body and Soul is one of the town's most highly-anticipated social events of the season where professional jazz musicians, community leaders and new and old friends mingle and mix," said Melissa Walker, president and founder of Jazz House Kids. "This year will be even more extraordinary as we swing open the doors to our new Jazz House and continue our 10th anniversary celebration."
"VIP Early Show" from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm - $250 per person
The evening begins with the "VIP Early Show" from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, where special patrons of Jazz House Kids will sample once-in-a-lifetime bottles from some truly spectacular winemakers selected by experts, Jazz House Kids board emeritus Jason DeSalvo and Amanti Vino proprietor Sharon Sevrens. DeSalvo is a member of the Chevaliers du Tastevin and the Commanderie des Costes du Rhone. He holds an Advanced Certificate from the prestigious UK-based Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET). Sevrens is the proprietor of Amanti Vino, a boutique, artisanal wine shop in Montclair, New Jersey. She holds a Diploma in wines and spirits from the WSET, its highest level of certification. Sevrens also holds a Certificate from the Sommelier Society of America. Both DeSalvo and Sevrens will be on hand to pour, inform, and field oenological questions. Patrons of the VIP Early Show will also sample some of CulinAriane's most luxurious offerings, prepared by nationally acclaimed chef Ariane Duarte, owner and chef of CulinAriane Restaurant in Montclair. A former "Top Chef" contestant, Duarte is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.
The "Main Event" from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm - $100 per person
Body and Soul patrons are invited to stay for the second part of the evening, The Main Event, from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm, where guests will wander through several lively "jazz clubs" featuring music, cuisine and different wines from around the world. Each room will feature a well-matched menu prepared by chef Ariane Duarte. A host of professional jazz musicians will transform the new Jazz House into a string of electrifying jazz venues. GRAMMY-winning bassist Christian McBride and vocalist Melissa Walker will join in and really get the Jazz House swinging along with emerging musicians from Jazz House Kids' award-winning ensembles and big bands.
Jazz House Kids is nationally known for developing top talent and tomorrow's rising stars. Recently, the Jazz House Big Band was invited to participate in the coveted Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Competition at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Next Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey, California. This year, Jazz House Kids students were finalists in the Charles Mingus High School Competition and Festival, participated in the 2013 GRAMMY Camp - Jazz Session (and 2012!), and one of the youngest students won an ASCAP award for his original composition.
All proceeds raised will support Jazz House Kids year-round jazz education and music programming. For more information and to purchase tickets, call 973-744-2273 or visit www.jazzhousekids.org.

About Jazz House Kids
Celebrating 10 years, Jazz House Kids has brought music, mentoring, education and apprenticeship to more than 20,000 students, teaching them to be life-long learners, communicators and innovators.

Jazz House Kids programs in underserved communities help close the gap in music education and place students on a level playing field with their peers from other communities. Based in Montclair, NJ, the "Jazz House" provides classes and performance ensembles for students 8 to 18, along with instrument and scholarship support for 38 percent of its student body.

The organization is proud to announce the opening of its brand new Jazz House at 347 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair. All are invited to the official ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 1st at 3:00 pm to celebrate 10 years of hitting the high notes.
