CUTTIN' UP with Sherman Iby & Antonio Hart
(Published: April 02, 2013)

G&J Productions and Ginny's Supper Club present CUTTIN' UP, a high-energy musical match between two musicians on the same instrument, trading songs and solos in a "friendly" rivalry.

Reminiscent of the musical pairings dating back to the 1920's, Cuttin' Up displays the upward spiral of excitement in jazz.

Sherman Irby is a long-time member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, during which time he also recorded and toured with Marcus Roberts and was part of Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead Program. A fluid and inventive blues-drenched player, Irby had a four-year stint with Roy Hargrove, in addition to being a member of Elvin Jones' ensemble and Papo Vazquez's Pirates Troubadours.

One of the "young lions" to emerge in the late 1980s and first recognized for his influential work with trumpeter Roy Hargrove, Grammy-nominated altoist Antonio Hart has established himself as one of the finest instrumentalists in jazz. He is a graduate of the Berklee School and has recorded and performed with a plethora of jazz greats including Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner and Nat Adderley, and is a protégé of legendary saxophonist Jimmy Heath.
