(Published: June 26, 2013)
Although American audiences are just getting to know him Albare (the nom de guerre of Albert Dadon) is one of Australia's most well-known musicians and most important forces in jazz 'down under'. His second album on Enja Records, 'The Road Ahead' dropped on June 11th and since June 13th he's been on tour with his band of Cuban and Venezuelan virtuosos: Osmany Paredes on piano, Yunior Terry on bass and Pablo Bencid on drums. They've already played Boston, Portland, Indianapolis and LA and are heading into the home stretch with shows this week at Yoshi's in Oakland and the Triple Door in Seattle. As director of the Melbourne Jazz Festival and founder of the Australian Jazz Awards he received the Australian Medal of Honor for his work in supporting the arts, particularly jazz.
