Clare Teal Christmas Album release
(Published: November 19, 2013)

The wonderfully charming BBC R2 presenter and multi award winning jazz singer Clare Teal is currently on tour and this month also sees the release of her very first Christmas album -
Jing, Jing-a-Ling.

Clare Teal Jing, Jing-a-Ling
Released: NOVEMBER 2013 On MUD Records
Available on CD from all major download sites

The UK's finest jazz singer and much loved performer, Clare Teal has released her first Christmas and twelfth album, Jing, Jing-a-Ling. It's a twinkling Christmas offering - something for everyone. Clare and the band have excelled themselves with this sparkling mix of old chestnuts, unearthed treasures and Yuletide originals guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit. Songs include the joyously catchy Jing-a-Ling, Jing-a-ling, the divine and long forgotten 'December' here given a beautiful Latin twist, The Twelve Days of Christmas as you've never heard it before plus three brand new Teal Field originals - Skating On Thin Ice, The Feeling's Right and the stunning - A Little Whisky a cosier fireside ballad you'd struggle to find.

Music styles range from the sublime - beautiful intimate ballad settings to the full on sublimely ridiculous - fabulously camp in places.

Warm December - Classic 50's Julie London styling with cool BVs - quite grown up.
The Christmas Song - As you'd expect - beautiful and simple.
Jing, Jing-a-Ling - Camp as Christmas - kids love it too - earworm city.
Winter Wonderland - Swingy with good modulations.
A Little Whisky - A CT & Mud original, very romantic ideal to cosy up on the settee to.
December - Latin groove, for Summery Christmas people - like the Australians.
That's What I Want For Christmas - Gorgeous ballad - for all you lovers out there.
Skating On Thin Ice - Another original - bar room bluesy, quite witty in parts.
The Feeling's Right - Another original - if only the Partridge Family were still going.
Mele Kalikimaka - Like Jing, Jing-a-Ling with more Ukuleles - it's Hawaiian you know.
The 12 Days of Christmas - Like you never heard it before starts slow and avalanches.
What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? - We're just having a quiet one with friends.

Peace, love and crackers to you all x

Teal is a recognised knowledge and enthusiast of the history of jazz and popular song and has been contemplating this project for many years. "I love Christmas and have collected Christmas music for years. Growing up, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Nat King Cole and Bert Kaemfert were the festive fare of choice in the Teal household. Such happy memories are attached to these records and as expected making Jing Jing-a-Ling did nothing to diminish those feelings. The album rehearsals and recording took place on some of the hottest days this summer. There we were in our shorts and T-shirts, all happily dreaming of a Winter Wonderland - or any form of snow and ice to cool us down. Mel Torme and Bob Wells wrote ‘The Christmas Song' during an exceptionally hot spell in a bid to ‘stay cool by thinking cool'. This seemed like a good plan although we had to see past the ‘Chestnuts roasting on an open fire' bit."

Clare has twice been voted British Jazz Singer of the year and also the BBC's Jazz Singer of the year. Away from her singing work, Clare is becoming increasingly well known to radio listeners with her recently extended, live show on BBC Radio 2, featuring the best of Swing and Big Band Music - Clare Teal Sunday Night's 9pm - 11pm. Alongside touring, recording and broadcasting Clare finds time to write a weekly column for her beloved Yorkshire Post.
Clare will be touring ‘The Divas & Me' throughout November, before Clare Teal's Festive Fiesta, now in it's 5th year, kicks off in December.

"Wonderful. Worth raving about" - Sir Michael Parkinson

"Clare has a timeless sound to her voice and classic touch and sound to her own songwriting. Now how modern is that? Music to melt to I'd say" - Jamie Cullum

"Please go out and buy Clare Teal's record!" - Michael Bublé

"The new first lady of Jazz" - Independent

"In this overcrowded field, Clare Teal deserves special attention" - Daily Telegraph,

"Fabulous" - Daily Mail

"The New Queen of Swing ... a sensation in the normally rather sedate world of jazz" - Mail On Sunday

"Teal has a big-heartedness that blows warmth through her work, and is perfectly offset by her bluff Yorkshire wit" - Independent On Sunday

"Teal is a distinctive singer with perspective and a sense of humour" - The Guardian

"Some singers sing standards, some sing their own material, but very few do both and even fewer do it well. Clare Teal is one of those rarities" - The Observer

"She is the only singer around with the kind of touching, humorous tone, jaunty and effortless phraseology to get anywhere near the might that was Ella Fitzgerald" - Jazzwise
