Jazz NightOut, Saturday, March 22, 7:30pm in Connecticut
(Published: March 02, 2008)

Join us for a night of "swingin" at the Fourth Annual Jazz NightOut Concert features New York-based drummer, Carl Allen. Carl's soulful and propulsive sound has been heard on tours and recordings with artists such as Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw and Benny Green. Presently, Carl leads his own groups and is co-leader of the Allen-Whitaker Project with Rodney Whitaker. Allen serves on the Jazz faculty of The Juilliard School in NY where he is currently Director of the Jazz Studies Program.

Opening for Carl is double bass player, Phil Bowler. Like Carl, Phil has played with many of the greats, including on Wynton Marsalis' Grammy-Winning album, Think of One. In addition to leading his own bands, Phil is the musical director/host of WPKN-FM's 89.5 "Jazz Adventures," a music and interview radio show broadcast in CT and NY.

Phil brings with him vocalist, Debra Cilingin, noted for traditional and contemporary jazz with a blues flavor reminiscent of Nina Simone and Billy Holiday. The Concert will be held in a café-style environment with appetizers and dessert buffet. This event annually sells-out so reserve your tickets early!

Living Rock Church, 138 Route 81, Killingworth, CT. $30 Adults; $15 Students; $10 Children 12 and under.
