Univ of New Hampshire Presents Harold Mabern
(Published: January 26, 2014)

Catch jazz pianist Harold Mabern at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, as part of the University of New Hampshire Department of Music Traditional Jazz Series. Mabern, one of jazz's most enduring and dazzlingly skilled pianists, was born in Memphis. He was an unsung hero of the 1960s hardbop scene, performing and recording with many of its finest artists, and only in recent years has he begun to garner appreciation for his long-running legacy in jazz and the understated power of his talent. He has played and recorded with such greats as Lee Morgan, Sonny Rollins, Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis, to name a few. Tickets, available in advance or at the door, are $8 general admission; $6 students and senior citizens. Call 862-7222 or visit www.unharts.com. The concert will be held in the Paul Creative Arts Center, 30 Academic Way, Durham.
