Archie Alleyne: Syncopation - Black Roots
(Published: February 09, 2014)

SYNCOPATION: BLACK ROOTS
A 'LIVE MUSICAL SHOWCASE CELEBRATING THE EVOLUTION OF
THE BLACK MUSIC SCENE IN TORONTO,
and PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE MUSICIANS FROM THE 50's, 60's and 70's!

Syncopation: Black Roots is a continuation in a series of concerts presented by Mr. Archie Alleyne that document and celebrate the history of Toronto's pioneering Black musicians. The third edition in the Syncopation series continues with a showcase of the evolution of the Black music scene in Toronto, with Archie Alleyne's Kollage representing the jazz scene of the 50s and 60s; Jay Douglas representing the Caribbean contributions to the Toronto music scene of the 60s and early 70s with the Evolution of Jazz Ensemble, featuring young musicians mentored by Alleyne, as the back-up band. The dance music era of the mid-70s will be represented by Toronto's top R&B band of that time, the 10-piece band, Crack of Dawn, which reunited in 2012. The concert will also feature talented young vocalists Kamil Andre (a member of Alleyne's Evolution of Jazz Ensemble) and Aijia Waithe (the Archie Alleyne Scholarship Fund's 2013 scholarship recipient) paying tribute to the Black musicians from the 50s, 60s and 70s.
