Columbus Jazz Orchestra welcomes Curtis Stigers for "Home for the Holidays" - Dec. 3-7
(Published: November 17, 2014)

Columbus, OH - The Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) returns to the historic Southern Theatre to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year in "Home for the Holidays," December 3 - 7, with a special Wednesday night opening performance. Platinum-selling crooner Curtis Stigers makes his Columbus Jazz Orchestra debut for the annual holiday spectacular. Each year promises a special yuletide surprise, and this year is no exception!

Singer/songwriter/saxophonist Curtis Stigers' exquisite voice and prolific songwriting has seen him trek through pop, jazz, blues, soul, folk, and even Americana and country. His rich singing voice has landed him on records with the likes of Al Green and Shawn Colvin, in studios with venerated producers like Larry Klein, Danny Kortchmar, and Glen Ballard, and onstage with a plethora of legends, including pop and rock greats Eric Clapton, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, and The Allman Brothers, and jazz giants Nancy Wilson, Al Jarreau, Gerry Mulligan, Randy and Michael Brecker, Chuck Mangione, Toots Thielmans, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, and many more. Since 2001, Stigers has released eight albums for Concord Records including his new release, Hooray for Love, an album of classic jazz standards. Additionally, Stigers co-wrote and sang the blues/rock-flavored theme song "This Life" from the wildly popular television show Sons of Anarchy (which earned him an Emmy nomination).

The Jazz Arts Group is proud to partner with The Salvation Army of Central Ohio during its entire run of "Home for the Holidays." In 2013, The Salvation Army distributed over 21,000 new toys and assisted over 8,000 families through its Adopt-a-Family and Christmas Cheer programs. Representatives from The Salvation Army will be on hand at each "Home for the Holidays" performance with their signature red kettles to accept donations.

The Jazz Academy also invites you to join us Saturday, December 6 (10:00 am and 11:30 am) for a special "Songs of the Season" PBJ & Jazz in the Lincoln Theatre ballroom. Led by the Rob Parton Quintet featuring Kristy Parton, this holiday sing-a-long is for anyone and everyone who would like to gather together, sing, have fun and celebrate the season! PBJ & Jazz concerts are $5 per person at the door with a family maximum of $20. Children receive a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, juice and a cookie. New toy donations will also be accepted for The Salvation Army at both performances. For more information call 614-294-5200 or visit www.jazzartsgroup.org.

Under the direction of Mark Donavan, the Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra (CYJO) is proud to perform prior to each Swingin' with the CJO matinee concert. Comprised of premier players in grades 9-12 from central Ohio and beyond, the CYJO provides opportunities for talented high school age musicians to further their experience in America's classical music - jazz. Admission to the CYJO performance at 2:00 pm is included with each 3:00 pm Sunday matinee ticket purchase.

Swingin' with the CJO Improv subscriptions (they make great Christmas gifts!) are available through the CAPA Ticket Office at 39 East State Street or by calling 614-469-0939. Single tickets are also on sale for $52 (main floor), $46 (first balcony), and $30 (second balcony) and available through the CAPA Ticket Office and through all Ticketmaster outlets.
