Come fly away with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra in "100 Years of Frank Sinatra," Feb. 5-8
(Published: January 05, 2015)

Columbus, OH - The Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) continues its 2014-15 Swingin' with the CJO season with "100 Years of Frank Sinatra" (February 5-8 at the Southern Theatre) to honor the music and legacy of "The Chairman of the Board" on the centennial of his birth.

Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, defined the classic American Songbook for decades with verve and panache. Long acclaimed as the world's greatest performer of popular music, Sinatra is the artist who set the standard for all others to follow. Sinatra was, of course, more than a singer - he was an actor, recording artist, cabaret and concert star, radio and television personality, and, on occasion, producer, director, and conductor. Lending their incredible vocal talents to the stage are Dee Daniels, Dwight Lenox, and Phil Clark to honor the music and legacy of "The Voice."

Dee Daniels has cultivated a diverse career that has also seen her on theatre stages including the 2009 premiere of New York choreographer Twyla Tharp's musical tribute to Frank Sinatra, Come Fly With Me. With the creation of her Symphony Pops programs, Great Ladies of Swing, The Soul of Ray: The Music of Ray Charles, and A Night Out With the Boys, Dee has enjoyed sharing stages with symphony orchestras across the USA and Canada.

Audience members can join Byron Stripling for a casual and engaging conversation with Dee Daniels and the wonderful guest artists of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra in a new workshop series at the Jazz Academy. "Offstage at the Jazz Academy" provides participants a behind-the-scenes glimpse from the artist perspective on performing with the CJO - adding new perspective to being an audience member. In addition to the opportunity to learn something new, each guest artist will be asked to share what they are currently listening to on their iPods or CD players, introducing audiences to new and exciting music and artists. "Offstage at the Jazz Academy" is free to CJO subscribers and $10 for general registrants. Pre-registration is requested and available online at www.jazzartsgroup.org.

2015 "Offstage at the Jazz Academy" season schedule:
• Saturday, February 7, 2:00 pm - Dee Daniels
• Saturday, March 14, 2:00 pm - Gerald Clayton (hosted by John Clayton)
• Saturday, April 11, 2:00 pm - Dave Powers & Becca Stevens

Under the direction of Mark Donavan, the Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra (CYJO) is proud to perform prior to each Swingin' with the CJO matinee concert. Comprised of premier players in grades 9-12 from central Ohio and beyond, the CYJO provides opportunities for talented high school age musicians to further their experience in America's classical music - jazz. Admission to the CYJO performance at 2 PM is included with each 3 PM Sunday matinee ticket purchase.

Swingin' with the CJO season subscriptions are available through the CAPA Ticket Office at 39 East State Street or by calling 614-469-0939. Single tickets are also on sale for $52 (main floor), $46 (first balcony), and $30 (second balcony) and available through the CAPA Ticket Office and through all Ticketmaster outlets. Student tickets are available for $15 (over 18) and $10 (under 18) with valid ID at the door. For more information call 614-294-5200 or visit www.jazzartsgroup.org.

The 2014-15 Swingin' with the CJO season is made possible by ongoing support from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, The Columbus Foundation, the Ohio Arts Council, The Reinberger Foundation, Ann & Tom Hoaglin, and The Westin Columbus. Concert sponsorship for "100 Years of Frank Sinatra" is provided by US Bank, with musician sponsorship from Dennis & Marty Yacobozzi, and media support from The Columbus Dispatch, WOSU Public Media, and WMNI AM 920.
