PREVIEW: THE SIXTH ANNUAL OCEAN CITY BEACH (NC) JAZZ FESTIVAL (2015) TO PRESENT AN ALL-STAR SHOW! by LARRY RENI THOMAS

The Sixth Annual Ocean City Beach (NC) Jazz Festival will be held on Friday, July 3, 2014, and Saturday, July 4. 2014. from 5 pm until 8 pm, both days. Scheduled performers on Friday, are Fayetteville, North Carolina resident trumpet smooth jazz sensation Willie Bradley; North Carolina Central University Jazz Studies Department professor, vocal instructor and Durham, North Carolina-based vocalist supreme Lenora Zenzalai Helm Hammonds, and Duke University Jazz Studies Department chair, professor and well-known, excellent, sturdy bassist, former Fayetteville, North Carolina resident, Durham, North Carolina-based, John Brown, with his quintet. The Friday performance will also feature the dynamic, he-of-serious-chops, Baltimore, Maryland-based, world-known, pianist Cyrus Chestnut, who was on the bill last year (2014) and who is back by very popular demand.

Saturday's line up is just as super, smoking and top-notch. The Saturday show will feature Fayetteville, North Carolina-based veteran, hard-working, blissful-sounding saxophonist Reggie Codrington and his exciting group; South Carolina native. NCCU Jazz Studies Department graduate, hot, much-in-demand saxophonist Marcus Anderson, and on Saturday night, The John Brown Quintet returns again with the highly-acclaimed, intense-playing, first-class guitarist Mark Whitfield, who will be making his first appearance at the Ocean City Beach Jazz Festival

Doors open at 4 pm. The event will be held in the courtyard of the Ocean City Beach Community Center, 2649 Island Drive, North Topsail Beach, NC 28460 (behind the Wade Chestnut Memorial Chapel).

Ocean City Beach, North Carolina is an historic beach located a stone's throw from the Atlantic Ocean that was founded and developed by African-Americans in the 1940s, and is one the oldest beaches on the North Carolina coast.

No picnics or coolers, please. Food, beverages and merchandise will be available for purchase on the premises. Bring lawn chairs.

Proceeds to benefit The Ocean City Beach Citizens Council.

The 6th Annual Ocean City Jazz Festival is supported, in part, by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of Department of Cultural Resources.
