Press Release

OPIUS BLISS, the new NYC based blues-rooted and jazz-informed power group, steps out onto the indie scene performing concerts in Manhattan and Boston in summer of 2015.

Bringing their love for American Rooted music together, the members of Opius Bliss desire to play music that inspires them. From jazz and blues to soul and funk, Opius Bliss defies categorization leaving audiences fully enthralled.

New York, NY, August 8, 2015: With their wide-ranging, eclectic and roots-oriented approach to making music, the new indie power group Opius Bliss seem to want to fill a void absent on the digital and radio dial. Using songs that are familiar to the listen yet with rearranged harmonies, the members of Opius Bliss dive into a musical narrative that feels like home. The Washington Post says of lead vocalist Michelle Walker, "....she has a soul-comforting allure...." With Walker's deep, dark and rich tone, the band draws listeners into a spellbound musical space which beckons the listener to confront their own emotions around love, lost, sexual frustration, passion, lust and life.

There is a uniqueness to Walker's soothing tone that is equally matched by the hypnotic guitar talent of acclaimed guitarist Jason Ennis. Pianist Sean Fitzpatrick, bassist Michael O'Brien and drummer Sean Dixon round out the band. With their inviting style, they move their audience to feel good, vulnerable and overwhelmed with emotion. The music moves at times to an acoustically sparse vocal heavy murmur to powerful punch improvisational zeal. The stories Walker and the band deliver are seductive interludes with gorgeous harmonies with an overlay of gospel and blues tinged-soul.

In the few short months since their inception, Opius Bliss has begun to grab the attention and praise of concert-goers, critics and talent buyers. The band stretches with wide appeal with comparison's to Tedeschi Trucks's band, Gov't Mule, Bonnie Raitt, Cassandra Wilson, Alabama Shakes and newcomers Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers.

Opius Bliss have embarked on a journey to make soulful and diverse rooted music that stands wide apart from those looking to follow current musical trends. The knotted traditions of American born roots music overlaps folk, blues, jazz, soul, country and rock genres. You can catch Opius Bliss live in concert tonight at the famed Greenwich Village watering-hole, The 55 Bar from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
