(Published: September 02, 2015)

Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell makes his Café Carlyle debut to open the fall season, September 15-26. The two-week engagement, entitled Plays With Music, will feature Broadway favorites, standards and jazz filled with beauty, joy, whimsy, romance and of course, his inspired vocal interpretations. Stephen Holden of The New York Times recently said that Stokes "brings an unprecedented fusion of theatrical heroism, pop-jazz sizzle and emotional vulnerability" and that he has "revealed an expressive fearlessness that among male pop singers has been matched only by Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles." He will be accompanied by a trio led by his long-time pianist and collaborator, Tedd Firth with Gary Haase on bass and Mark McLean on drums.

Performances will take place Tuesday - Friday at 8:45pm; and Saturdays at 8:45pm and 10:45pm. Reservations made by phone at 212.744.1600 are $110 ($165 for premium seating, $65 for bar seating) Tuesday - Thursday & the Saturday late show; and $135 ($185 for premium seating, $75 for bar seating) on Friday and Saturday. Reservations made online at www.ticketweb.com are $120 ($180 for premium seating) Tuesday - Thursday & the Saturday late show; and $200 ($145 for premium seating) on Friday and Saturday. Café Carlyle is located in The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel (35 East 76th Street, at Madison Avenue).

Dubbed "The Last Leading Man" by The New York Times, Brian Stokes Mitchell has enjoyed a long and varied career on Broadway, television and film, along with appearances in the great American concert halls. His Broadway career includes performances in Kiss Me Kate (Tony Award), Man of La Mancha (Tony nomination), Ragtime (Tony nomination) and King Hedley II (Tony nomination). His long television and film career goes back to Trapper John, MD, The Fresh Prince, Frasier and The Prince of Egypt to the more recent Jumping the Broom, Glee, Madam Secretary and Mr. Robot. In 2006, he released his acclaimed self-titled album and in 2012 he released his sophomore record, Simply Broadway which was accompanied by a U.S. tour.
