Olu Dara - May 15 & 16 at Creole
(Published: April 30, 2009)

NEW YORK - Creole Restaurant and Music Supper Club proudly presents Olu Dara in concert, after a one-year sabbatical - as part of its Legacy Series - on Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th at 8:00 and 10:00 PM at Creole, 2167 Third Avenue, Corner of 118th Street, NY, NY 10035.

Mississippi native, Olu Dara has been creating and performing his own brand of music and storytelling for over 30 years. A complex mixture of blues, jazz, gospel, R&B, Caribbean and African rhythms, Olu's original and free-spirited style reflects a lifetime of experience in America. A cornetist, guitarist and singer, Olu first became known as a jazz musician playing alongside such greats as Art Blakely. His recordings, In the World:From Natchez to New York (Atlantic) and Neighborhoods, featuring guest performances by Dr. John and Cassandra Wilson, have received wide acclaim. He has frequently recorded with his son - hip-hop artist NAS, and is featured on cornet, trumpet, and vocals on NAS' various hits, albums and videos. He is also known for his collaborations in the theater - most notably as composer for works of renowned playwright August Wilson.

Creole (www.creolenyc.com) is known for its quality food and music and for bringing Jazz & R&B back uptown. Located in the heart of East Harlem, its ambiance is reminiscent of the nostalgic era of jazz supper clubs that spawned careers of countless jazz and blues artists who went on to make history. At Creole, one is immediately comforted by warmth and hospitality, as well as international cuisine, which features dishes such as blackened spice catfish, sweet potato beignets, and 20 variations of classic gumbo. Proprietor Kevin Walters prides himself on this unique environment that marries art, music, culture, entertainment, food and a sense of community in one location.

Please join us for this special engagement - to see and hear Olu Dara in performance.
