Chris Otts Group displays flexibility and unpredictability on thrilling new album
(Published: February 04, 2016)

Augusta, GA-based saxophonist/composer Chris Otts and his band have released a new album, Layers, that can swiftly reel in both casual and hardcore jazz fans with its accessible songs and top-drawer musicianship.

True to its title, a number of the songs have Layers of meaning, open to multiple interpretations. "No Control," for example, seems to deal with confusion. It suggests being stuck in a situation where a person cannot do anything, and the only solution is to let it all go. The track is actually cathartic, helping to release worries and stress using its sexy and inviting melodies. Tired and feeling empty? This will ease the pain.

"Ecstasy of Love" has an upbeat and thrilling groove that captures the rush of being in love for the first time all over again. The music opens the doors of the imagination, vividly capturing the feeling of a blooming romance.
Otts' rendition of Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" delivers a refreshing twist to a well known party song. Otts flips the switch from pulsating disco to soulful and jazzy with mesmerizing results.

Layers showcases Otts' ability to be flexible and unpredictable.
