"Chicago Hero Award" winners Joanie Pallatto and Bradley Parker Sparrow return to NY for special One Night Only appearance in NY. The award, given by the Jazz Journalist Association the highlight of their combined careers.

Vocalist Joanie Pallatto and Pianist and Composer Bradley Parker-Sparrow claim Chicago as their home - their life in music has blossomed over the decades, along with their marriage. As co-owners of Southport Records and producers and engineers at Sparrow Sound Design Recording Studio, together they have released close to 150 recordings since 1977 - mostly of jazz artists, along with cabaret performers and contemporary classical composers.

For over twelve years as curators of their "Southport Records Presents" series at Katerina's in Chicago, Joanie and Sparrow opened each evening with their duets of original music, followed by featuring a different artist from their Southport Records label. Lampkin Music Group, along with Southport Records presented "The After Party for Von Freeman" at The Iridium in New York as a salute to NEA Jazz Master Von Freeman in January of 2012, featuring 2012 NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan. Joanie & Sparrow performed their original songs, and featured guest vocalists included jazz legend Bob Dorough, Broadway's Bill Nolte and jazz vocalist Martha Lorin.

Joanie Pallatto has released ten CD's and performs at Chicago venues including The Green Mill, Davenports, and Andy's Jazz Club. Concert engagements have included The Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago Cultural Center, The Old Town School of Folk Music, Park West, Stage 773 and Bailiwick Theater; she was also a featured soloist with Daniel Barenboim in "Ellington Among Friends" at Symphony Center.
As a solo singer, group singer and voice-over talent, she has recorded on hundreds of radio and television commercials nationally.

Sparrow has released fourteen recordings as a leader, as well as having published music criticism and his own entertaining opinions. He has written soundtracks for several films, including films and plays of his own - his one act play "The Silence" was performed and premiered at Navy Pier in 1985, and his three act play "The Bar" received a full reading at Victory Gardens Theatre.

"The Last Cabrini" (a Southport Film ©2012) premiered at Chicago's CIMMFest 2016 - a cinema tone-poem with Rick Kogan, narrator and Joanie Pallatto, voice. Shot, directed, edited and composed by Sparrow.

"AMusical" takes place in the present. John Grace, a composer of music and words, is experiencing an artistic catharsis. His musical "Book" has been unsuccessful in gaining a financial backer, and he is bitter. But "The Book" is taking on a magical life of its own. Each time "The Book" is opened, whoever is present is catapulted into a scene from AMusical. The songs are extensions of life, and love. "AMusical" is based on an actual street neighborhood in Chicago, North Southport Avenue, near Wrigley Field.

What the critics have said:

"Joanie and Sparrow have elevated what they do together splendidly. They're uniquely entertaining Chicago artists."
- Howard Mandel, Jazz journalist

Described by Rick Kogan of the Chicago Tribune as having "a stirring and special voice,"

Christopher Loudon wrote in Jazz Times, "Trying to channel Pallatto is like attempting to bottle a cyclone. It's best to just let her run wild..."

Chicago's own Studs Terkel wrote "Sparrow is one of Chicago's originals, he does not follow the fashion of the day, but his own north star."

Sparrowism: "The modern artist sees no difference between the construction of a song or the construction of a building. Intellectual labor co-exists with physical labor. There is poetry in the formation of art and the formation of room design. Sweat is a part of art, and art needs physical tension. The modern artist must be diverse in order to exist in the modern corporate world." - Bradley Parker-Sparrow

So make your RSVP's now for a tour-de-force experience from these two Chicago Hero Award winners!
