Emerging Jazz Singer Corinne Mammana Praised By JazzTimes for "Superb Technique"; Debut EP Celebrates The Great American Songbook, and Features Collaboration with Eight-Time Grammy Nominated Jazz Guitarist, Dr. Frank DiBussolo

With a sophisticated and soothing style, Corinne Mammana is an emerging American jazz singer praised by JazzTimes for her "superb technique." Her debut EP ‘Under an August Moon' celebrates the Great American Songbook via a four-song collection of jazz standards from the 40s and 50s, as well as contemporary songs. Mammana describes the collection as "a romantic ride from the Santa Fe Railway to the shores of Brazil." The EP will be released August 12th, and can be pre-ordered here:

‘Under an August Moon' features eight-time Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist Dr. Frank DiBussolo. DiBussolo (who also arranged and co-produced the new EP,) has worked with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Diana Ross, Norah Jones and others. As a soloist he has been featured with the bands of Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie and more. Corinne was introduced to DiBussolo in 2012 and they have been performing together ever since. The duo has appeared at renowned venues such as New York Cityʼs the Metropolitan Room, Philadelphiaʼs Chrisʼ Jazz Cafe and the legendary Deer Head Inn.

""Under an August Moon" is a lyric taken from one of my favorite songs in the Songbook, Cole Porter's ‘You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To'," Mammana explains.  "One day when Frank and I were playing through the tune, he started to weave in the famous Spanish guitar piece, ‘Romanza'.  I absolutely loved how the two songs blended together and was inspired to record it this way.  It really sets the mood for the remainder of the EP, which includes a bossa-nova version of ‘Baubles, Bangles and Beads'."

She continues, "the full-band tracks ‘A Wink and a Smile' from the hit movie Sleepless in Seattle, and the classic ‘On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe' were a blast to sing.  My producer, Andrew Chervak did an incredible job giving the feel and sound of a live performance and the band was remarkable!"

DiBussolo comments, "World-Class players are a jaded bunch but everyone was on the edge of their seats and gave outstanding performances. Evidence the subtle nuances of pianist David Leonhardt on ‘On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe' and his bluesy statement on ‘A Wink and a Smile'. And speaking of the blues, the clarinet and tenor styling of Greg Edwards brought this music ‘down home'!  The rhythm section of bassist Bruce Kaminsky and drummer Lorenzo Branca laid down a groove that can only be described as in the pocket.  And as for me, I am always honored to add my guitar's voice to this group of virtuosi."

More from the JazzTimes write-up: "Mammana bridges a sometimes difficult gap between what is obviously her seriously and classically trained vocal instrument, as applied to a lightly swinging book of songs. Her superb technique is a dead giveaway. But Mammana applies her superior technique gracefully, carefully, tastefully and intelligently. There are no clichés in her singing and no licks. She wisely lets the melody and the lyric speak for themselves..."

The new EP was produced, mixed and mastered by Andrew Chervak at MIDNIGHT STUDIOS in Easton, Pennsylvania.
