Lesley Flanigan and Lucky Dragons @ The Kitchen, December 3
(Published: November 14, 2016)

The Kitchen will present the next installment of Synth Nights, its series devoted to the live performance of electronic music, on December 3 with composer, Lesley Flanigan and LA-based Lucky Dragons. A vocalist and instrument builder whose work reflects an elemental approach to her medium, Lesley Flanigan performs new work with handmade speaker feedback instruments alongside amplified voice, creating an intimate connection between gesture and sound-a kind of physical electronic music. Her work has been presented at venues and festivals internationally, including Sonar (Barcelona), The Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park (Chicago), the Guggenheim Museum (New York), ISSUE Project Room (Brooklyn), The Stone (New York), TransitioMX (Mexico City), CMKY Festival (Boulder), the Roskilde Museum of Contemporary Art (Denmark) and KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin.

Joining her is Lucky Dragons, a collaboration between Sarah Rara and Luke Fischbeck. For this performance Lucky Dragons will appear as solo performer Sarah Rara. Returning for the first time in nearly a decade, the composition will be based on explorations of auditory illusions, voice, and synthesis. Lucky Dragons research forms of participation, dissent, perception and attention in performance and public art, purposefully working towards a better understanding of existing ecologies through workshops, publications and recordings.
Synth Nights: Lesley Flanigan and Lucky Dragons will take place on Saturday, December 3 at 8pm. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at www.thekitchen.org; by phone at 212.255.5793 x11; or in person at The Kitchen (512 West 19th Street), Tuesdays - Saturdays, 2:00 - 6:00 P.M. This event is organized by Tim Griffin and Katy Dammers.

Synth Nights: Lesley Flanigan and Lucky Dragons is made possible with support from Jerome Foundation and New Music USA, endowment support from Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust, annual grants from The Amphion Foundation, Inc., The Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Howard Gilman Foundation, and The Fan Fox and Leslie R.
