Stephanie Jordan headlines the International Arts Foundation's Annual Fundraising Gala
(Published: November 17, 2016)

"The Essence of Africa"
An evening of Authentic New Orleans & African Cuisine *Wine & Cocktails

NEW ORLEANS - We invite you to join us in the celebration of the International Arts Foundation's Annual Fundraising Gala & Silent Auction. This year's theme is The Essence of Africa. The gala and silent auction will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the EPIC Center Unforgettable Event Room from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. 3220 General De Gaulle Drive, New Orleans, LA.

The Annual Gala is the signature fundraising event for the foundation. The generous support of corporate and individual donors is paramount to the foundation's ability to implement cultural, civic, educational, and economic development programs, to benefit our community both locally and internationally.

The evening will begin with a VIP reception for sponsors where guest will have an opportunity to mingle and sample authentic African cuisine and sample an array of specialty wines and cocktails. The gala opens up to music of internationally acclaimed and New Orleans native Stephanie Jordan and flows into a buffet style dinner of exquisite New Orleans and African cuisine.

Stephanie Jordan's current show continues her signature trademark of singing jazz standards from the Big Band era. It includes highlights from her self-produced debut CD; "Stephanie Jordan Sings a Tribute to Lena Horne" which honors the legendary Grammy Award winner who starred in many films.

Jazz critic Ted Panken writes, "Great lyrics permeate this beautifully rendered homage, and Jordan has the skill sets to do them justice-a voice that projects from a whisper to a scream, fluid phrasing.... She finds fresh, unfailingly swinging approaches to this well-traveled repertoire, melding into a personal argot elements garnered from such distinguished mentors as Shirley Horn, Abbey Lincoln, Nancy Wilson-and Lena Horne herself-while sounding like no one other than Stephanie Jordan... Jordan's sodium pentothal treatment-the truth WILL be told-is evocative of the magical phrasing of Shirley Horn."

This year's theme "The Essence of Africa," identifies the importance of cultural diversity in the arts, education and music and increase awareness of the value of culturally diverse communities.
