Molly Ringwald in Provincetown & Ken Peplowski at Provincetown Jazz Festival
(Published: January 26, 2017)

The 13th Annual, 2017 Provincetown Jazz Festival will be held on August 10, 7:00pm at The Crown & Anchor in Provincetown and on August 14, 7:30pm at the Cotuit Center for the Arts, both located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

For 12 years the Provincetown Jazz Festival has presented jazz musicians from the United States, Canada, South America, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. This year we will feature five jazz musicians making their Provincetown Jazz Festival debut:

• Molly Ringwald is best known as an actress for "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club" and "Pretty in Pink," but long before she became known as a Golden Globe-nominated actress, she was singing and started performing with her father's jazz band when she was three-years-old. It was traditional jazz with her father on piano, but there was some Bessie Smith and Helen Kane, the original Betty Boop. She loves performing songs from the Great American Song Book and recently recorded her CD "Except Sometimes" and has been performing at concerts at home in California, Birdland in New York City, and this is her Cape Cod Debut.

• Ken Peplowski "is arguably the greatest living jazz clarinetist" says Russell Davies, BBC2. He has recorded approximately 50 CDs as a soloist, and close to 400 as a sideman and some of the many artists he has performed/recorded with include Mel Torme, Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, Woody Allen, Benny Goodman, and Madonna. He travels at least half of every year and has appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival, Hollywood Bowl, and Carnegie Hall. He will be accompanied by Matt DeChamplain on piano, Ron Ormsby on bass, and Bart Weisman on drums.

• Atla DeChamplain (vocals) and Matt DeChamplain (piano) have a love for jazz which brought them together and they recently completed their debut album. In addition to their active performance schedule, Matt teaches at the Hartt School of Music and Atla is the jazz voice instructor at Western Connecticut State University. Atla & Matt will be accompanied by Ron Ormsby on bass and Bart Weisman on drums.

• Takumi Kakimoto was born in Himeji, Japan and started playing piano at the age of five. He is a junior majoring in Piano Performance and Jazz Composition at the Berklee College of Music and he has been studying with Tim Ray, best known as long-time pianist for Lyle Lovett. He will be accompanied by Ron Ormsby on bass and Bart Weisman on drums.
