Pauline Jean Receives World Citizen Artists Award And Returns To Harlem For Upcoming Performance
(Published: January 31, 2017)

On February 4, 2017, vocalist Pauline Jean will present her NWAYO project at Ginny's Supper Club joined by a quintet featuring many longtime collaborators including Axel Laugart (piano); Godwin Louis (alto sax); Jonathan Michel (bass); Harvel Narkundi (drums); and Markus Schwartz (percussion). Later that same month, she will be performing at RISE's Black History Month celebration to benefit the visually impaired in Nevis, WI.

In January, Pauline Jean received the 2016 World Citizen Artists Award as part of the "ONE FOR ALL" Music Competition. Jean is a consistent advocate for her native Haiti and has sought to draw attention and raise funds for the many people who have been displaced and impacted by the country's recent natural disasters. In December of last year, she traveled with a group of fellow musicians to Haiti as part of the Experience Ayiti mission. Using music as a conduit to affect positive change, the group provided aid, master classes, free concerts, and food/instrument distribution throughout different regions of Haiti.

Earlier in the year, Jean released a video for "Their Blood, Bondye," which once again focused on raising funds for Haiti. The video can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/Jean_TBB

Pauline Jean's latest recording, NWAYO, was self-released in 2016 to favorable reviews. The album covers a broad musical spectrum and provides both a cultural and historical perspective on various works such as Igbo Landing and Their Blood, Bondye, a collaboration between Jean and renowned author Edwidge Danticat, among several others. A stellar cast joins her on the recording including Axel Laugart, Jonathan Michel, Godwin Louis, Jean Caze, Obed Calvaire, Markus Schwartz, and Jean Mary Brignol.
