Jawanza Kobie KIMMEL CENTER Jazz Residency World Premiere (Published: February 02, 2017)
Jawanza Kobie is the first Delaware resident to be awarded the Jazz Residency at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia PA.
This residency and world premiere is a narrative aimed at a young audience in the mold of 'Peter and the Wolf' by Sergei Prokofiev where there is an introduction to orchestral music and instruments also enjoyed and appreciated by adults told with a narrative.
'Bird Stories' (working title) is an original collaborative effort between the composer Jawanza Kobie and Yale Drama and Playwright professor Deb Margolin designed to introduce, expose a young audience to the genre of Jazz music through a narrative and jazz band. Both the story and music are original which engages the audience in participation as well as visuals. Although the target audience is for a young audience, the music and story will be sophisticated enough to be enjoyed and appreciated by adults as well.
This is a family friendly musical and theatrical event. If you like 'accessible' Jazz Music covering traditional, contemporary, progressive and fusion with an original light hearted story teaching examples of tolerance and acceptance...this is it! Saturday May 13, 2017 2pm
There are 'work in progress' performances in March and April which are free to attend for this residency listed below.
