Ben Sher continues Latin jazz explorations on excellent new album (Published: May 12, 2017)
Guitarist Ben Sher has a deep fascination with Brazilian jazz that he continues on Tempestade, his fourth release under BGI Records.
For those who have followed Sher's explorations into Latin music, this is another jewel on the crown; to the unenlightened, the doors will now open to a stellar discography.
It is only fitting that the album took its name from one of its best tracks. It fully showcases the musician's talent and skills. It is a very powerful and hypnotic cut, revealing a blues influence. Tempestade means storm in English, which aptly describes the hot energy reverberating throughout the song and the whole record.
"Star Eyes" is a unique tune. It has a playful vibe into it, featuring electronic sounds that make the track funky. The song has the power to make you fall in love to the groove. It is beautiful and refreshing.
Last but definitely not the least, the third cut is entitled "Windows to the Present." This track figuratively represents the window to the present because of its sound, recalling contemporary pop in some ways.
Overflowing with talent, Sher does an outstanding job of creating varied tunes and getting the right artists to give life to his music. Every track has a different flavor which keeps the album unpredictable and interesting.
