Vocalist Janet Staley mesmerizes on new album of covers
(Published: June 24, 2017)

"Loneliness is such a sad affair," sings Janet Staley on "Superstar," a cover of the Carpenters' 1971 classic, included on her debut album, Whisper to the Wind.

The haunting melancholy of the song's lyrics - which are actually about the unrequited love between a groupie and a rock guitarist - are echoed in Staley's crestfallen crooning. Capturing the profound yearning in Karen Carpenter's interpretation is a difficult task but Staley delivers a bittersweet, emotionally charged performance that is completely devastating. Mournful horns and moody piano add depths of sorrow.

"Can't Help Lovin' That Man," however, showcases a different kind of energy and vibe. Like the subject of the words, the song is irresistible and will knock you off your feet. Listening to it can be compared to being lost in the moment because of a beautiful feeling, which is love.

"Willow Weep for Me" casts the spotlight on masterful guitar playing, blending well with Staley's angelic voice and mesmerizing style. Overall, the album captivates the hearts of its listeners and makes them feel the ups and downs of being in love through well-selected and tastefully rendered covers.

Whisper to the Wind is a collection of tunes that plays with feelings in a positive way, uplifting summer entertainment.
