Rhode Island based but known worldwide, saxophonist Greg Abate, along with the Tim Ray Trio, will be playing in the "Stage Door Live!" series on Thursday, April 26 (buy tickets here https://zeiterion.org/greg-abate/). Also on hand that night will be recording engineer John Mailloux of Bongo Beach Productions along with his equipment, in the expectation that the evening will be available in the future as Abate's fourth CD on the Whaling City Sound label.

Every year, Greg Abate does more concerts, clubs dates, clinics, college classes and other playing than most musicians do in five. Repeated trips to England and mid-sized cities all over the U.S. have led to the recognition that results in sold out crowds night after night. In spite of all the travel, or maybe because of it, Greg maintains the fire, beauty and striving that keeps people coming back.

Tim Ray is an in-demand piano player throughout New England, and in recent years has been featured with Tony Bennett. Bassist John Lockwood is the dean of first call musicians in the Boston area; he can and does play in any style from Avant-garde free music to relaxed bass behind a sultry singer, with every stop in between. Drummer Mark Walker has several Grammys in his closet, and has toured extensively with Paquito d'Rivera and Dave Samuels' Caribbean Jazz Project. As a trio, they have done several recordings with Greg, and have regular clubs dates in Cambridge and surrounding towns.

The intimate setting of "Stage Door Live!" at "The Z" is as much of an experience for the performers as it is to the members of the audience, who are seated very close to the band. The space seems small, but there is the entire area of the elegant Zeiterion Theatre in place of one wall. Capturing the excitement of the live performance as is it happening is the job of the recording engineer.

If you would like to be part of the audience for this event, please call 508-997-5664 for tickets. Seating is limited and the Stage Door Live series often sells out in advance.
