Wil Alston's debut album is soothing and diverse
(Published: May 31, 2018)

Wil Alston's voice is like a warm hug after a thunderstorm.

It is comforting and soothing, a gentle caress to the ears. On the Colorado-based singer/songwriter's new album Introducing Wil Alston, his soulful croon is the connective thread that weaves various styles of music. With songs that champion faith and family, Alston provides a much-needed emotional lift from uneasy times. The unspoken message is, essentially, everything will be fine. That's the effect Alston's voice has, a feeling of calm reassurance.

On "He's My Brother," Alston pays homage to his oldest sibling with admiration and deeply felt gratitude. The summer glow of acoustic guitars on "He's My Brother" reflect the shimmering beauty of the human spirit; the overall atmosphere is both soaring and relaxing. On "Be Careful," Alston's gentle vocals are lushly anchored by Jordi Castella's sweetly melodic piano.

Alston is unafraid of taking risks, too. "Things I Wish For" is awash with slick beats, straying from jazz, and features a guest rap from Kevin Cartoon. This is a diverse, stellar debut.
