Potent, Spirited, Hard Core and Free Form Jazz. from New York and Boston
(Published: July 10, 2018)

The Creative Music Series Welcomes
The Mike Pride 3 Featuring
the phenomenal Jon Irabagon/saxophones
And special guest bassist Bruno Raberg

Converging in a show of renowned and young creative improvisational artists.
Mike Pride - Drums - N.Y. by way of Maine: Percussionist * Band Leader * Educator *Composer * Vocalist * Visual Artist
The distinctly gifted drummer/composer, Mike Pride is prolifically active as a leader/accompanist in a wide variety of groups and genres: Jazz-Free Jazz, metal, noise, avant-garde rock, and free music.

"Today, Pride is pushing the boundaries while defying definition as an artist. As one of creative music's great mavericks over the past 15 years, Pride has established himself despite being from a generation that is crowded with drum talent. Building on some of the revolutionary work that figures such as Jim Black pioneered in the 1990s, Pride has also pushed forward along his own path while...remain(ing) one of the most interesting and unpredictable improvisers in New York, and his new records all deserve serious attention". Jazz Right Now.

He has worked with everyone from improvised music icon Anthony Braxton to punk legends Millions Of Dead Cops, toured extensively on four continents, appeared on more than 100 recordings.
Mike also leads modern-jazz quartet From Bacteria To Boys, the 7-drummer installation-band Drummer's Corpse, and the piano trio I HATE WORK (which interprets the songs of Pride's former band, hardcore legends, MDC). He also co-leads the ensembles Pulverize The Sound (w/ Peter Evans and Tim Dahl), and Period (w/ Charlie Looker and Chuck Bettis). And a member of many another band on the planet.

Interview with Cisco Bradley: What five records have had the greatest impact upon you as a musician?
1. Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch
2. Derek Bailey/Bill Laswell/Tony Williams - Arcana
3. Art Ensemble of Chicago - A Jackson In Your House
4. Max Roach - Survivors
5. Albert Ayler - Love Cry

Jon Irabagon - Alto, Tenor, Soprano Saxophones - N.Y.: Composer * Educator * Band Leader
One of the most in-demand saxophonists in Jazz...

Winner of the 2008 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Saxophone Competition

"Making the trek to the Newport Jazz Festival worthwhile was Mary Halvorson's quintet, especially its saxophonist, Jon Irabagon, whose solos embodied both stalwart technique and a deep understanding of avant-garde vocabulary." -Evan Haga, JazzTimes Newport Jazz Festival review

"Saxophonist Jon Irabagon's playing is a treat. His sax work is restrained and searching at times and scorching and scathing at others throughout this focused program. 5 stars." - Paul Acquaro, Free Jazz Blog

"Jon Irabagon has become one of the strongest, most flexible, and daring saxophonists at work today."- Peter Margasak
Mr. Irabagon cuts a cavalier figure on the left-of-center New York jazz grid, often raising a cheerful ruckus as he stealthily hits his mark. He's a musician of intense concentration who wants nothing more than to indulge a spirit of play, emphatic and unreserved." -Nate Chinen, New York Times
And Special Guest
Bruno Raberg - Upright Bass - Boston: * Composer * Educator

ORBIS MUSIC is an independent music label owned and operated by bassist/composer Bruno RÃ¥berg. The label is focusing on creative jazz, modern classical, experimental free improvisation and world music.

Jerry D'Souza in All About Jazz describes his album Lifelines, "The improvisations are a study of the understanding between the four....the way each player nimbly threads his way into the spaces set by the others is quite astonishing...Raberg, as may well be expected, comes up with another delectable recording." Also, Bill Milkowski in JazzTimes states "For sheer output, it's astounding. And the depth of expression and degree of surprise represented here is remarkable."

The Creative Music Series in recognition of THE WE HAVE VOICE collective-Women in Jazz and other artistic expressions-shall encourage safe(r) workplaces in the performing arts - zero tolerance for harassment of any kind! URL: www.wehavevoice.org.

The Creative Music Series (CMS) was established in 1/ 2015, to showcase the work of adventurous jazz musicians from out-of-state, presenting them in intimate venues in the Cambridge/Somerville area. My endeavor was a reaction to the apparent lack of invitations being extended to accomplished, new talent and even unknown musicians to the Boston area. CMS has now begun to zero in on Boston based musicians who are creating their own projects with these out-of-town guests, and taking these musical risks to find an expression and gain a wider appreciation.
