New Album Release: Protean Labyrinth by Kyoko Kitamura's Tidepool Fauna
(Published: August 10, 2018)

Vocalist Kyoko Kitamura released her new labum Protean Labyrinth today, August 10th 2018, the debut album of her quartet Tidepool Fauna featuring the stellar cast of improvisers Ingrid Laubrock (tenor sax), Ken Filiano (bass) and Dayeon Seok (drums). The album is available on her Bandcamp page (link at the bottom of the paragraph). Presented on this album for the first time are Kitamura's compositions for wordless vocals and improvisation. Avant Music News says of the new album, "Despite the instrumentation, this is not jazz. Nor does it groove, or set forth clear melodies. Instead, Kitamura and company offer an emotionally and intellectually satisfying excursion into a world of instrumentals with voice. Each minute of the recording overflows with ideas. Needless to say, this is one of the more compelling releases of the year."

Korean-born drummer Dayeon Seok came to the United States in 2008, earned a Bachelor's degree at Berklee College of Music and received a Master's degree at New York University in 2014.
