The second annual Bern Nix Jazz Festival will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm at Saint Elizabeth's Church 305 North Broad Street Elizabeth NJ 07208. The Festival celebrates the life & music of Bern Nix; jazz guitarist, composer, sideman, and writer with his closest collaborators performing his compositions, reading from his memoirs, and sharing their working experiences with him.

Mr. Nix is best known for his twelve years with Ornette Coleman in the Primetime Band. The Band toured the world, performed on Saturday Night Live and recorded the landmark albums Dancing In Your Head, Body Meta along with many others. Mr. Nix went on to perform with his own Trio and later a Quartet recording Alarms and Excursions and Negative Capability. He also released a solo guitar album entitled Low Barometer.

This year's Festival brings together a fascinating group of jazz musicians including the Bern Nix Quartet featuring Francois Grillot, Matt Lavelle, and Reggie Sylvester. They will be joined by Charlie Ellerbe, an original member of the Prime Time Band. Drummer, William Hooker will be appearing along with the Ras Moshe Music Now Unit, Michael Eaton & the Individuation Ensemble, Jack DeSalvo, James Bally & Stephen Park representing the next generation, Dom Minasi, and Dave Bryant. Jazz writer John Pietaro will also read a piece of original poetry dedicated to Nix.

The Festival is being held in Elizabeth NJ at Saint Elizabeth's Church at 305 N Broad Street. General Admission is $20 and for Students/Artists admission is $5. Both include dinner which will be served at intermission! There is free parking and the church is three blocks from the Elizabeth train station via NJ Transit.
