Woody Witt recipient of 2010 CMA/FACE grant
Houston-based saxophonist, Woody Witt, is a 2010 recipient of the CMA/FACE French-American Jazz Exchange grant. This grant supports innovative collaborations of French and U.S. jazz artists that take place in one or both countries.
Witt will be collaborating with French pianist, Franck Amsallem. They will present arrangements of themes and original works inspired by French Impressionist composers such as Poulenc, Debussy and Ravel, in a traditional jazz quartet setting.
Witt and Amsallem first met during a series of performances in Houston in 2008 with fellow Houston Community College faculty Sebastian Whittaker (drums) and David Craig (bass). Their meeting was documented on the recording, "First Impression," recorded at HCC-NW Performing Arts Center. This cd will be released on Blue Bamboo Music in February 2010 and it will mark Witt's 7th cd as a leader.
Woody will headline the 2010 Jazz Au Mercure festival with Amsallem in Toulouse, France in March 2010. They will also perform and record in the U.S. in Fall 2010, including a performance at the HCC-NW Performing Arts Center.
