Devyn Rush soars beautifully on new EP
(Published: January 03, 2020)

Devyn Rush is a highly talented singer with a beautifully melodic voice. She has a range that can seamlessly move from warm and intimate, to bright and soaring, and it is a perfect fit for jazz music. Her most recent release, the Out of The Blues EP, paints a vivid portrait of Rush's singing ability, showcasing her vocal tone and even her skills to actively drive the dynamic of a song based on the power of her tuneful vocals. From quiet and intimate, to bold and daring, Rush always retains a classy and timeless aesthetic.

Throughout the duration of the EP, Rush explores different creative approaches over the span of five songs. Each track feels like a page of a journal, and if you read between the lines, you'll be treated to an amazing emotional range of tones, with a tasteful production. Rush ultimately stands out for her ability to bring so much class, warmth, and passion to her sound. Out of The Blues, with its timeless arrangements and unique approach to production, feels like an important chapter in the carrier of this talented singer, as well as a fantastic way to end the year on a positive note.

The opening song "Stuff like That There" is an elegant composition with an impressive piano melody matching Rush's beautiful voice. The second track, "Hypnotik," has a warm and fascinating sound with a modern jazz twist. The title track actually makes me think of some of the best '90s R&B, combined with jazz and other elements. The following track, "Misty," takes a step back and softens the mood with a beautifully minimalist arrangement. Last, but definitely not least, the song "Beautiful" brings a tasteful contemporary jazz tone to the table comes up with some of the singer's most energetic vocals on this EP.

It is very impressive to hear such a diverse range of influences in a relatively small amount of songs. The artist definitely outdid herself and managed to surround herself with some fantastic musicians to help her make her vision come true. Out of The Blues is a notable and emotionally powerful work that puts Rush on the map.
