(Published: January 28, 2020)

FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC JAZZ TRUMPET PROFESSOR BRIAN LYNCH RECEIVES GRAMMY® AWARD FOR BEST LARGE JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Album is #FrostBuilt
Features Students and Alumni and Recorded in
School's State-of-the -Art Studio

The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami is pleased to announce Brian Lynch, an esteemed member of our faculty received a GRAMMY Award at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, Sunday, January 26, 2020 live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Honored in the category of Best Large Jazz Ensemble The Omni-American Book Club by the Brian Lynch Big Band features Frost students, faculty and alumni and was recorded in one of the school's state of the art recording studios, a true testament to the excellence that can be achieved studying at Frost.

Dean Shelton, G. Berg stated: "Frost School Professor Brian Lynch is one of the world's greats as a jazz trumpeter, composer, and arranger and richly deserving of the Grammy Award for his innovative, erudite, and most of all, highly artistic recording.  In Omni-American Book Club we get the full value of Lynch's endlessly curious approach to life, imbued with his varied musical influences, from Afro-Cuban to Hard Bop.  I couldn't be prouder of Brian, and the fact that most of the personnel on this Grammy-winning recording are Frost School of Music students, faculty, and alums and the project was recorded in one of the school's state-of-the-art studios.  It is a fantastic achievement. "

Brian Lynch stated: "I am completely blown away and extremely gratified to have been awarded this honor and in such distinguished company! This Grammy award for Best Jazz Large Ensemble Album is really an award for all of us here at Frost, for I could not have made this project without the help of everyone here in my Frost family. From the students, both alumni and current, and faculty that made up the majority of a recording ensemble second to none; to the state of the art facilities and staff at our Weeks Studio and the encouragement and support from all in our school, from the Dean on down; this album was truly "Frost Built"! Thanks to everyone for making this possible."
