Conference Call in Austin, Tx (Published: February 02, 2010)
Central Texans will soon have the rare opportunity to hear the exciting jazz quartet that JazzReview.com has called "one of the most important ensembles on the scene today."
On April 17, 2010, Conference Call will make a one night only appearance in Austin, Texas at The Boyd Vance Theatre.
This group features original music from all of its members, while drawing upon the distinctive improvisational and textural talents of each. Their unique music features Gebhard Ullmann's extensive woodwind palette (tenor and soprano saxes, bass clarinet and bass flute); the textural and timbral virtuosity of drummer George Schuller; and the organic and highly creative piano/bass interplay of Michael Jefry Stevens and Joe Fonda.
Sponsored by KOOP Community radio 91.7,
this concert promises to be an unforgettable evening of exciting music.
Conference Call will play in the
Boyd Vance Theater at the Carver Museum and Cultural Center,
1165 Angelina Street, Austin, TX.
Tickets are $18 at the door.
$15 Advance tickets are available at End of an Ear Records,

What the critics say:
"If it's possible to have a super-group in a musical form as marginalized as contemporary, left-field jazz, then Conference Call is a pretty good contender."
(Daniel Spicer, One Final Note)
"Conference Call as a whole swings with a gleeful impetuosity that's hard, if not impossible, to dislike. Kinda sounds like what the late '60s Miles Davis band might have become had they stayed the course." (Chris Kelsey, Jazz Times)
