New EP is fantastic introduction to singer/songwriter Natalie Hamilton
(Published: March 04, 2020)

New York-based Natalie Hamilton is a singer/songwriter who recently released a brand new studio EP. The project is titled The Birds, They Taught Me, and it features a selection of three beautiful songs, including the title track itself. Kicking off with "On The Radio," this a catchy and melodic song with a warm sound and a seamless arrangement. It offers a perfect taste of Hamilton's superb vocal performance and versatility. The second tune is another lovely track named "God and Dawn (The Tyger Song)," which sets the bar higher in terms of production and structure, and Hamilton showcases her full range. Last, but definitely not least, the title cut is the perfect example of a song that feels spontaneous and direct, giving the audience a perfect taste of melody and appeal.

This EP has some fine piano playing on it, and the melody-driven sensibilities of the tracks are absolutely awesome. Any fan of classic jazz with a modern twist is definitely going to appreciate the sound and feel of these well-crafted tunes. What I love about this record is how it combines the sophistication of jazz with elements of folk and pop music alike. The result is a tantalizing blend of influences, giving the listeners a remarkably kaleidoscopic listening experience, even in such a contained number of songs.

The EP has a sweet and mellow tone, which feels like a perfect introduction to Hamilton's personality as an artist and songwriter. Fans of artists as diverse as Ani Di Franco, Ella Fitzgerald or even acts like Fleetwood Mac might definitely connect with this production, and all the diverse range of influences fueling her music and creativity.

Ultimately, the EP stands out as a definite calling card for Hamilton, and a fantastic introduction to her sound and vision as an artist and songwriter. There is so much warmth to this production, and her passion for creating timeless music is undeniable. It will appear sincere to you from the moment you'll hit that play button and let the music flow.
