New Rhonda Head single creates deeper connection with listener
(Published: April 08, 2020)

Rhonda Head is focused on creating catchy and spontaneous music which truly creates a deeper connection with the audience. Her most recent single, "Played," is a perfect example of what I am talking about. This is a song with a smooth and dynamic attitude, and Head's vocals are so full of warmth and pathos. In fact, it is safe to say that her distinctive sound sets the bar higher, going for an elegant jazz sound that might remind you of iconic artists such as Nina Simone, as well as Ella Fitzgerald, only to mention a few.

What's special about Head's music is definitely the fact that she knows how to embrace the "less is more" philosophy in order to create music that is so warm and so easy to connect with. By that, I mean that she isn't always trying to overdo it with her voice. Some singers go out of their way to try to impress their audience with virtuoso vocal parts, and while Head is certainly able to do that, it is clear that she sings in service of the song rather than as a way to show off vocal chops. "Song is king," as some say, and it is always refreshing to hear a talented jazz singer who actually wants to contribute to some great music with a stunning vocal performance.

One of the best things about jazz music is that this genre is based on inherent freedom. Artists in this genre are usually true masters of their craft, and they know what it means to elevate their craft in terms of innovation. Head is definitely walking that path as well. Her music celebrates the most iconic and timeless influences on the jazz scene, going for a classic feel - an evergreen that never gets old. If you do enjoy gorgeous jazz recordings, you should definitely check out this new release and look deeper into her music and career.
